October 19, 2009

Another round from our National Poetry Day pub quiz. How well do you know your flicks? No Googling!

1) In 2008’s “The Edge of Love”, Matthew Rhys plays which Welsh poet?

2) Gwenyth Paltrow acts as Shakespeare’s love interest in the 1998 hit “Shakespeare in Love”, but which twentieth-century poet did she play in 2003?

3) And in the aforementioned “Shakespeare in Love”, who plays the Bard?

4) Bob Dylan is portrayed by several different actors in the 2005 biopic “I’m Not There”. Who was the only woman to play him?

5) In the 1979 classic “Apocalypse Now”, which poet does Colonel Kurtz read to the imprisoned Captain Willard?

6) Ted Hughes won critical acclaim for his 1970 collection “Crow”. In Brandon Lee’s 1994 cult classic, “The Crow”, which Edgar Allen Poe poem does Lee misquote as he breaks into a shop?

7) And staying in 1994, which poem by W.H. Auden is recited in the film “Four Weddings and a Funeral”?

  1. Claire A Says:

    1. Dylan Thomas

    2. Sylvia Plath

    3. Joseph Fiennes

    4. Cate Blanchett

    5. OK terrible admission: I have only seen the first ten minutes of Apocalypse Now.

    6. I’ve never seen this movie, but I’d guess ‘The Raven’…

    7. The poem that begins “stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone…”. I think that poem is actually Untitled, or only titled by a number…? May be wrong, though!

Thanks for this guys! I didn’t Google at all and it was a good brain teaser!
