Happenings 27: 2010!

January 9, 2010

Happy new year one and all! Hope you all had the best of festive, and are surviving the cold, wherever you are. We threw the doors wide again (metaphorically speaking of course!) on Tuesday, and have enjoyed a busy week of catching up.

We’re getting really excited about the imminent Carry a Poem campaign! We’ve joined forces with the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust in turning your stories about the poems you hold dear into the One Book One Edinburgh city-wide reading campaign! In February, Edinburgh’s libraries, cafes, schools and more will be drenched with the delightful Carry a Poem anthology, and we’ll be descending upon you with a flurry of events. The book is at the printers as we speak, but here’s a sneak preview of Alan Cumming’s page. And you can of course dip into some of the stories and see the viral teaser of our animation! over at the Carry a Poem website.

We never get bored of eating Christmas chocolates, and hearing about snow adventures/grievances.

Our events programme is being prepped for print by Jane as we speak! If you can’t bear the wait, you can have a look on the events part of our website. First dates for your diaries are our new books group on Monday, a Genomics Forum Social Session looking at poetry’s relationship with science, a reading with Douglas Dunn, Eleanor Livingstone and Kevin MacNeil, and Owen Sheers talking about his journey round the poetry of Britain for the recent BBC series.

Our Poetry Reader is here!

We’re looking forward to the poetry of 2010!

Stay warm…
