As you may already know, this Thursday (7th October) is National Poetry Day and the theme for 2010 is ‘Home’. You’ll be able to find us on Castle Street from 10.30am-2pm reprising our collaboration with the beautiful new Edinburgh City Libraries mobile library van. You’re invited to borrow or return your ECL books, browse a lovely stock of poetry, fiction, children’s and audio – and pick up your National Poetry Day postcards while you’re about it.

Or you can always join us at the library for a 3pm taking of a cake and tea! We’re flinging our doors open, chintzing the place up a bit and reading some poems in our house of poetry. All ages, all very welcome.

Our far flung friends in Shetland Library are inviting you to make yourself at home by hosting a tea party poetry session too, as is Ullapool’s lovely Ceilidh Place. Meanwhile in the Brookwood Library in Bearsden, Kenneth Steven will be taking part in a special National Poetry day reading, and Images Not Icons by Lesley Duncan will launch at the Mitchell Library in the evening. Of course there’s plenty else happening all over the country!

If you can’t make it in person to any of Thursday’s happenings, do clear a wee space in your schedule to raise a cup of tea and read a poem about home aloud to your nearest friend! And tell us about it!
